I spent a week in Texas, with my ex’s, (JK) but Texas has a lot to offer and when done right, is fun and satisfies both the palate and the outdoorsman/woman.
First stop on the trip was Austin. I enjoyed a walk around Lady Bird Lake, which has a trail for bikers or joggers. Austin is home to UT Austin so the town is full of college students and tech giants such as Indeed and Facebook, which add character and a touch of professionalism to the town.
When in Austin, explore Rainey Street for the Container Bar and Un Bar Lievable, and don’t forget to check out Congress Avenue Bridge for a nighttime bat sighting, you heard me right. During August and September months, bats are known to fly out from under the bridge but you can also catch them during other months.
My favorite restaurant in Austin was Perla’s which offers a beautiful outdoor patio and delicious seafood menu! Order the lobster bucatini.
No trip to Texas would be complete without a trip to Waco for Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Silos and Market. I became a big fan of Fixer Upper on HGTV and had to visit their market.
The Silos offer delicious food trucks, corn whole, Magnolia Bakery and a bustling gift shop where you can buy Joanna’s favorite things. Her cupcakes are a MUST.
We had brunch at Magnolia Table. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict and prickly pear lemonade.
Next on the trip is Dallas. Texas is known for their beef so we visited Pecan Lodge for BBQ. Be prepared to wait in line, our wait was about an hour.
Until next time,
